LA traffic lived up to its reputation as it took us 2 hours to travel the 11 miles from our digs in Santa Monica to Bird’s of Hollywood, but the billboards kept us entertained along the way. Although we claim to be hard core Harry Bosch fans, we needed the Bird’s website to remind us that Harry stopped here first in the book Echo Park.
Grateful for valet parking here, not a spot to be found within blocks.
Bird’s gives off an artsy Bohemian vibe, lot’s of great energy, lot’s of smiles from happy servers and satisfied customers. We dined outside under the awning, and were seated right away. After an appetizer of fried pickles (be sure to order these – awesome!) Raye chose the half chicken, Bill chose the half chicken ‘all white’, and for sides we both had the homemade coleslaw, chipotle mayo, and garlic aioli dipping sauces. The chicken (especially its sticky, crispy and flavorful skin) and homemade coleslaw were delish! NOTE: the chicken was so moist and flavorful, you could easily skip the dipping sauces.
