Harry Bosch and Eleanor Wish also visited Jar (the initials stand for ‘just another restaurant’) for dinner, and this spot was a ‘must’ on our list, as it was also highly recommended by Erick at Musso and Frank’s Grill. Our server John Z was well informed of the intricacies of the menu and dishes and helped guide us with our choices. John’s enthusiasm about the menu and our selections was infectious. The decor is timeless, elegant and comfortable.
We began with the Black Mussels with ong choy, lobster béarnaise, and fennel salt, then the Roasted Beets with burrata, Persian cucumber and hazelnuts. The mussels and especially the broth were amazing, the beets with the burrata were an unusual combination, but were delicious and refreshing. Raye had the Char Siu Pork Chop, Bill had the Halibut which was a special. For sides we had Purple Yams with crème fraîche and chives, and Brussel Sprouts Kimchi. The pork chop was off the charts ‘best ever’, the halibut was good but forgettable, the yams were interesting, and the Brussel sprouts were delicious.
For dessert John recommended the butterscotch pudding with salted caramel to accompany our cappuccinos. Superb-the quintessential comfort food!
All in all, Jar was our favorite fine food experience so far.
halibut looks terribly lonely. I’m salivating. You both are great at this. Hope you can make some money doing this!!!
